Quantitative Investing: A 35-Year Retrospective

The principles of modern finance may be arcane to some, but they shape the modern equity marketplace as we know it. Everything from index portfolios and asset allocation to portable alpha and market neutral strategies had their inception in the groundbreaking work of innovators such as Bill Sharpe, Harry Markowitz, Fischer Black, Myron Scholes, Tom Loeb and Bill Fouse – the latter two being co-founders of Mellon Capital Management Corporation.

In this special report, Tom Loeb, Mellon Capital Chairman, reviews these developments, offering personal insights into how academic theories evolved into strategies that are now vital components of institutional portfolios.
